WORD OF THE YEAR 2020 – INTENTIONAL
I’m so excited to share my word of the year for 2020 with you! For me, 2019 was full of joy but also verrrry busy. Taking care of a household, homeschooling with 4 kids, and starting a new blog had me caught up in a beautifully chaotic whirlwind. Can you relate?! 😜
As I sat down to reflect and choose a word of the year for 2020, the first one I thought of was INTENTIONAL. I have a habit of breezing through my days with little thought to intentional planning. I do what needs to be done when it needs to be done, very unintentionally. Let me tell you, it’s not ideal. 😂
Since I struggle with planning, this year I want to be intentional in all areas of my life, specifically in these 3 categories:

This is a big one for me! I don’t know about you but I have a hard time with time management. Do you ever feel like you have so many things to do but end up getting nothing done? It me. 🙋♀️
This year I’m so excited to try out time blocking. Time blocking is when you set a timer for a certain task you want to accomplish. Then you try to get it done within the time you set.
I love this idea because I love a good challenge. I’ll be setting that timer to help myself get some of the less exciting tasks done such as dishes and folding laundry. I also think it will limit distractions!
I’m so thankful for the people in my life who love and support me and this year I want to intentionally spend time with all of them! Since I have an 18-month-old who is still nursing, it’s easy to spend more time with her than my other kids. Working on intentionally spending time with each child is one of my goals as well as spending time with my husband and other family members.
Recently, I’ve started going to a moms life group at church and making a point to do a girl’s night here and there to spend more time with my friends. It has been SO refreshing. That’s why I want to continue to intentionally spend time with my friends this year!
SPIRITUAL & PHYSICAL HEALTH
As a mom of 4, I often forget to take care of myself because I am always taking care of someone else. This year I want to be intentional about setting aside time to pray, read my bible, and make sure I’m paying attention to my physical health.
For example, I always forget to drink enough water and I’ve completely given up on meal planning. 🤷♀️ These are a couple of things I want to be intentional about doing in this brand new year!
HOW TO PICK YOUR OWN WORD FOR THE YEAR
Now it’s your turn to pick your word for the year. An easy way to do this is to sit down and reflect on last year by answering the following questions:
- What brought you joy?
- What stressed you out?
- In which areas of your life did you feel confident?
- In which areas of your life did you feel like you needed encouragement?
