Why Choose a Natural Bath Bomb Recipe?

Many store-bought bath bombs have artificial fragrances and coloring in them. Fragrance in self-care products is known to be an endocrine disrupter. That means it can mess with your hormones and no one wants that!

Using natural products and making your own natural bath bombs will give you peace of mind that you won’t have any toxic ingredients in your self-care routine.

If you like to make your own non-toxic self-care products also try this DIY baking soda-free deodorant!

If you have extra sensitive skin you can make them fragrance-free so you can enjoy the stress-relieving benefits without the scent.

If you would rather use whole plant ingredients you could even try adding dried rose petals to the mix. Your bath bombs will smell amazing!

Most of the ingredients you need to make this recipe are probably already in your kitchen pantry. If you don’t have the ingredients on hand they are all readily available at the grocery store or online. Here’s what you’ll need to get started.

Dry Ingredients

Baking soda: Baking soda is a common household ingredient that can be found at any grocery store. I usually buy a big box of it because I use it for cleaning all over my house.

It’s a great deodorizer and is perfect for cleaning your bathroom. For bath bombs, it makes them perfectly fizzy!

Citric Acid: Citric acid is used to mix in with the baking soda and make the bath bombs fizzy, It is made from citrus fruit and it is a natural ingredient.

Epsom Salt: Epsom salt is an optional ingredient. You can add some in place of some of the baking soda to give your bath bombs a muscle-soothing boost!

Mica Powder: Mica powder is a natural powder that is used to add color to products like bath bombs and homemade makeup.

You only need a tiny bit to get a pop color. This is totally optional if you are sensitive to this addition you can just omit it.

Wet Ingredients

Water: Filtered water is always best but you can use any clean water you have on hand.

Pure Essential Oils: Essential oils give the bath bombs a relaxing scent but you can always omit them if you are sensitive to fragrance oils. Some favorite essential oil blends include lavender essential oil and lemon essential oil.

Coconut oil: Coconut oil is optional and can be added if you feel like your bath bombs are too dry and need some extra binding power.

Coconut oil is also one of the best carrier oils to use with essential oils. You could also use almond oil.

Natural Food Coloring: Natural food coloring is another safe way to add color to your bath bombs. However, it is also optional because you don’t need color at all if you are sensitive to food coloring.

If you do want to use it you only need a drop or two to get a vibrant color!

Equipment:

Small and Large Mixing Bowl: You can use glass or stainless steel mixing bowls.

Bath Bomb Molds: You can use silicone or stainless steel bath bomb molds. You can even get different shapes other than just spheres!

DIY Bath Bomb Recipe

To make your own bath bombs mix together 2 cups of baking soda and 1 cup of citric acid in a large bowl. In a separate small bowl mix together 2 tablespoons of water and 30 drops of your favorite essential oils.

Slowly add the liquid mixture to the large mixing bowl with the dry ingredients a few drops at a time. Stir well after each time you add so you don’t add too much water at once.

While you are mixing you can add in the optional ingredients such as coloring if you choose to.

Keep mixing until the mixture feels like wet sand. Once ingredients are thoroughly mixed pack down the bath bomb mixture into a silicone mold to form a ball shape.

Allow them to dry for 12 plus hours before using. To use simply drop the bath bomb into your bath and allow it to dissolve.

Enjoy your spa-like experience!

Can Kids Use Bath Bombs?

These bath bombs are kid safe but as with any other product you may want to patch test it on your kid’s skin before using. For small children, you should either use no essential oils or keep the dilution very low dilution.

You can even put small toys in the middle of the bath bomb when you are making it so when it finishes fizzing in the bath your kids can find them!

How to Store Bath Bombs

Let your bath bombs dry for 12 plus hours before using or storing them. Once they are dry you can store them in an airtight container for up to 12 months.
