17 Effective Home Remedies for Whitening Teeth Overnight

A bright smile full of white teeth can boost your confidence and make a great impression on those around you. Unfortunately, all of us can become susceptible to tooth stains that cause yellow teeth due to diet, aging, and lifestyle choices.

That’s why it’s important to keep up with your oral health. One way to do that is to use home remedies for whitening teeth overnight!

Although you may not go from yellow to bright white in one night, if you use these natural remedies on a regular basis you will start to see a huge difference in the color and health of your teeth.

Whitening kits you can buy at your local store may work well but they are usually filled with toxic ingredients. There are toxins hiding in everything from tampons to sports bras and also in tooth whiteners so the best way to whiten your teeth is to choose natural remedies whenever possible.

The harsh chemicals in many whitening products available can also cause side effects such as damage to your tooth enamel and tooth sensitivity. That doesn’t seem worth it for white teeth when you can use natural remedies instead.

Try these home remedies for whitening teeth overnight for a sparkling clean white smile!

1) Activated Charcoal

Activated charcoal is a great natural teeth whitener. The way it works is that it binds to the surface of your teeth, removing stains and discoloration.

In order to use activated charcoal you can simply dip your wet toothbrush in it and brush your teeth or you can add it to your regular toothpaste and brush with that. Be sure to choose food-grade activated charcoal.

Activated charcoal is pretty messy so be careful opening up your tub or charcoal and only use a small amount. Be sure to rinse well after you’re done.

2) Coconut Oil Pulling

Oil pulling is one of my favorite natural remedies for whitening teeth. I have been oil-pulling for years with great success.

Oil pulling involves taking a spoon of coconut oil (about 1 teaspoon) and swishing it around in your mouth for 10-20 minutes. Be sure not to swallow the oil and spit it out in the trash can after so you don’t clog your sink.

The oil helps to pull out harmful bacteria that cause tooth decay, freshen your breath, and whiten your teeth. Some people even claim oiling pulling can heal cavities!

For the best results, you should use coconut oil or sesame oil.

3) Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is one of my favorite home remedies for just about everything! You can use it for everything from wart removal to deodorant! It is a natural teeth whitener that can help to remove stains and discoloration.

Apple cider vinegar is very strong so you should mix it with equal parts water before using it as a mouthwash. Then rinse your mouth after for fresh breath and whiter teeth!

4) Lemon Juice and Baking Soda

You can use a baking soda and lemon juice paste to whiten your teeth and you probably already have them at home!

Together they make a powerful teeth-whitening solution. The baking soda is a mild abrasive while the lemon juice is alkaline so it creates an alkaline environment.

To use, mix a small amount of lemon juice and baking soda to make a paste. Put the paste on the surface of the teeth and leave it on for 2-3 minutes.

Then rinse with water and brush your teeth as you normally would. You can repeat the use of this homemade paste once or twice a week for the best results.

5) Diet and Lifestyle Changes

Even more important than applying a topical remedy are diet and lifestyle changes. Many of the foods and drinks people enjoy can be the culprit of their teeth’ yellowing.

Try to cut back on foods and drinks that are high in acid, such as coffee, tea, and red wine, which can cause staining and discoloration.

In addition to this, you should also stop smoking or using tobacco products which will help to improve your overall health and the appearance of your teeth.

6) Brush with Baking Soda

Baking soda is a natural teeth whitener that almost everyone has in their homes already. It is both safe and effective.

To use it all you have to do is mix a small amount of baking soda with water to create a paste. Then, use this paste to brush your teeth for about two minutes.

The baking soda will help to remove stains from the teeth surface and brighten your teeth.

7) Use Hydrogen Peroxide

Another natural whitening agent commonly used for teeth whitening is hydrogen peroxide. You can mix hydrogen peroxide with a bit of water and swish it in your mouth for about one minute.

Be sure to rinse your mouth well with water after. This will help to brighten your smile and remove surface stains.

8) Apply Tooth-Whitening Strips

If you are in a rush you can always get some teeth-whitening strips. They are a fast and easy way to get whiter teeth.

All you do is put the strip on your teeth and leave them on for the recommended time. Try to look for a non-toxic brand of strips so you don’t run into any toxic ingredients.

9) Use a Charcoal Toothpaste

As mentioned earlier, activated charcoal is a fantastic natural teeth whitener. It works by binding to the surface of your teeth, removing stains and discoloration.

If you are in a rush and don’t have any activated charcoal on hand you can use charcoal toothpaste instead. This way you can use it every day for brighter, whiter teeth!

10) Banana Peel

Banana peels are also used to whiten teeth because they have a small amount of potassium, magnesium, and other minerals in them. Those minerals in banana peels can help remove surface stains from teeth.

To use banana peels for teeth whitening simply rub the inside of the peel against your teeth for a couple of minutes. Then rinse your mouth with water.

11) Tumeric Powder

Turmeric is a natural antiseptic so it can be very helpful for whitening your teeth. You can simply make a paste of a teaspoon of turmeric powder and water and brush your teeth with it or add the turmeric straight to your toothpaste.

12) Orange Essential Oil

Orange essential oil is another remedy for whiter teeth. You can use it by adding a few drops to your toothpaste and brushing your teeth as you normally would.

It can help whiten teeth and has antifungal properties that can help keep gums healthy.

13) Salt and Lemon

As I mentioned lemons are great for teeth whitening. You can also use lemon juice with salt to scrub teeth and get a whitening effect.

14) Guava Leaves

Guava leaves have antibacterial properties that can help to whiten your teeth. All you have to do is chew on a few guava leaves after your meals or make tea from them and use it as a mouthwash.

15) Neem Leaves

Chewing on neem leaving after meals or making tea with them and using it as a mouthwash is great for your teeth because of the antibacterial properties in neem leaves and can help whiten teeth.

16) Electric Toothbrush

If you are still using a regular toothbrush it may be time to switch to an electric toothbrush. Using an electric toothbrush will help remove plaque better than a traditional toothbrush because it oscillates at a higher frequency than regular brushing and removes plaque more effectively which will help keep your teeth from getting yellow over time.

17) Orange Peel

Another remedy you can use an orange peel to whiten your teeth. All you have to do is take a fresh orange peel and rub it on your teeth for a few minutes.

The way it works is that citric acid helps to freshen your breath as well as break down any plaque on your teeth which will help whiten them. Rinse your mouth afterward and do this once or twice a week!

Wrapping Up Home Remedies For Whitening Teeth Overnight

By using these natural teeth whitening methods in your routine, you can get a healthier, whiter smile without the use of harsh chemicals. As I mentioned earlier, you have to be patient and use the methods for an extended period of time in order to see a drastic change.

Just remember to keep at it and you will notice a change. You should also still get professional teeth cleaning on a regular basis and check in with your healthcare provider if you have any concerns.
