Instagram Highlight Covers: How To Easily Create Them (+ FREE Icons!)

HOW TO CREATE INSTAGRAM HIGHLIGHT COVERS

Instagram stories are a great way to connect with your audience. You can share all kinds of content on the fly without worrying about editing.

The valuable information you’re sharing can then be saved in story highlights. These highlights will be displayed under your bio so your readers can keep coming back to your content. That means they should be on-brand with your content and give a wow factor to your profile!

Today, I’m teaching you how to make Instagram highlight covers (in just 3 easy steps!) that will catch the eyes of your audience and make them want to view your Instagram story highlights.

STEP 1 – DOWNLOAD CANVA

Canva is one of my all-time favorite apps. I use it for just about all of the designing I do for my Instagram & blog. It’s very user-friendly (even if you aren’t a designer!) which makes it perfect for designing Instagram highlight covers.

Go ahead and download Canva on your phone so you can start designing. You can also use it on desktop but for this tutorial, I will be using the phone app.

STEP 2 – START DESIGNING IN CANVA

Open Canva and scroll until you see Instagram Story. Click see all next to Instagram story and then choose blank. Once you have your blank template, you can add anything to it that you’d like on your Instagram highlight cover.

To start with the background color, tap the blank white template and click on color. From there you can change the background to any color you like by choosing a default color or a custom color by clicking on the square with the plus sign in it.

Next, you can add an illustration, text, or both. To do this, tap the plus sign in the bottom right corner. From there, you can add your text or illustration. Dragging your design element will pull up dashed lines that will help you center them on your template.

Once you’re happy with your design, tap the checkmark at the top and then the arrow to save your design to your camera roll.

STEP 3 – ADD YOUR INSTAGRAM HIGHLIGHT ICONS TO YOUR PROFILE

Now that you’ve made your Instagram highlight covers, it’s time to add them to your profile. Go to your Instagram profile and click on the story highlight you want to add the cover to.

Then, click more on the bottom right. Next, click edit highlight. Then, at the top click edit cover and choose your highlight cover from your camera roll. Easy peasy!
