Make Your Bathroom Smell Like a Spa (15 Nontoxic Tips)

Do you want your bathroom to smell like a luxurious spa? Sometimes cleaning the bathroom just isn’t enough to get the fresh scent you’re dreaming of but there are plenty of effective ways to make your bathroom smell like a spa!

I have 4 kids so I know how smelly bathrooms can get. I’ve tried many different ways to get my bathroom to smell like a spa such as essential oils, baking soda, citrus, and more.

You do not have to reach for the toxic air fresheners and wall plugins to get the good smell you want. There are many natural ways that work even better without all the toxins.

Today, I’m going to share with you the best natural ways to get your bathroom smelling amazing!

These 15 genius tips will help your bathroom go from blah to ahhhh (fresh & clean) in no time!

How to Make Your Bathroom Smell like a Spa

You don’t need to go to the spa to get a spa smell. You can get a spa experience in your own bathroom by using these simple tips!

1) Essential Oil Diffusers

I probably have about 8 aromatherapy diffusers around my house. I definitely have one in the bathroom!

Using an ultrasonic diffuser is simple and easy. You just add a few drops of essential oil and fill with water to the fill line. Turn it on and you’ll have a spa scent in no time.

You can try these amazing diffuser blends for the best-smelling bathroom! Plus it looks pretty watching the mist flow out of the top!

2) Reed Diffuser

A reed diffuser follows the same idea as the electric diffuser except it doesn’t require electricity or water.

Simply set it up and leave it for days without having to worry about it being plugged in or needing to turn it on and off. You’ll still get the wonderful smell with little maintenance!

3) Toothpaste in the Toilet Tank

This is a super fun trick I learned recently to take the bad smell out of your toilet.

All you have to do is take a tube of toothpaste (all natural is best) and poke a few little holes in it. Open the back of your toilet and put it in your toilet tank.

Every time you flush your toilet a little bit of toothpaste will come out and clean your toilet bowl. This will ensure your toilet never gets too dirty and your bathroom stays smelling fresh!

4) Baking Soda

Baking soda is the MVP of deodorizing and the best cleaning hack. I use it for everything!

To use it in the bathroom take a small mason jar and fill it will baking soda. Place it on a shelf in your bathroom and you will notice it starts to neutralize the foul smell of the bathroom.

This is the best air freshener because it lasts for about a month and has no toxins! You can also use baking soda to make a DIY bath powder!

5) Apples

Apples are a great way to draw bad smells out of your bathroom. Simply cut an apple in half and leave it in an area that has a foul odor and it will draw the bad smell into it leaving your bathroom smelling fresher

Just don’t leave it out too long so you don’t attract ants or other pests!

6) Citrus Slices

Citrus is one of my favorite smells and it works great for getting a spa scent in your bathroom.

Cut up some fresh lemon slices or your favorite citrus fruits and let them sit in the bathroom in a bowl on the counter. You could even let them dry out and make an orange garland!

7) Air Purifier

Indoor air can get stagnant and smell especially in a small bathroom. An air purifier is a great way to get rid of the strong smell of your bathroom so you can have a spa-like environment!

8) Plants & Flowers

Plants have long been known for their unique ability to purify the air. This is why they are a perfect addition to a bathroom to make it feel like a home spa.

Also, try adding fresh flowers for a floral scent!

9) Fresh Eucalyptus

Fresh eucalyptus has a wonderful natural scent and it looks beautiful in a vase or hung in the shower. It will make your bathroom smell like your favorite spa!

10) DIY Room Spray

Try making a DIY room spray using essential oils. Here is a quick and easy recipe to try today:

  • 4 oz glass bottle
  • 2 oz water
  • 1 oz alcohol (vodka)
  • 20 drops of essential oil

Mix all ingredients together and spray in your room!

11) Activated Charcoal

Activated charcoal works as a bathroom deodorizer and can also reduce mold in your space. You can get chemical-free purifier bags made from bamboo and activated charcoal and place them next to the sink or behind the toilet!

12) White Vinegar

White vinegar is amazing for the bathroom because it removes odor and also disinfects your toilets and drains. You can use it effectively by pouring a little in your toilet bowl every night so it can fight the odor and you will wake up with a fresh bathroom in the morning.

13) Open the Windows

Opening the windows is always a good idea for a smelly bathroom. Letting the fresh air in helps to air out small spaces and makes your room feel refreshed!

14) Cotton Balls

Cotton balls are the best way to get rid of unpleasant odors in an affordable way by using them as a DIY diffuser pad! Simply buy a bag of cotton balls and some lemon essential oil.

Put a few drops on a few cotton balls and stash them in the nooks and crannies of your bathroom like behind the toilet, under the counter, or even inside the toilet paper roll.

They will help with bad odors and also deter any pests from invading your bathroom!

15) DIY Potpourri

Another effective trick is to make your own DIY potpourri.

Simply take a small bowl and add some cinnamon sticks, dried lemon slices, and dried flowers. Mix them together and put the bowl out on the bathroom counter for a pleasant smell!

What Not to Use

Some people may recommend using fabric softener or air fresheners to make your house smell good but I don’t recommend these. The reason is that many of those products have harsh chemicals and artificial fragrances that are actually endocrine disrupters!

That means they can mess with your hormones and leave you feeling lousy! Creating a toxin-free home doesn’t happen overnight but this is one step you can take today to make your house less toxic.

The good news is all the recommendations in this post are totally natural!

Wrapping Up

The easiest way to make your bathroom smell like a spa is to choose one of the natural methods above. All of them are readily available and easy to implement.

Using a natural way to get a nice scent in your bathroom will save you from bringing toxins into your home and make you feel good about the safe atmosphere you are creating for your family and guests.

You will have a spa-like bathroom in no time with a pleasant scent to put you in a good mood. No more stinky bathrooms!
