Recently news broke that BPA was found in a variety of different sports bras from popular companies. That means now is a perfect time for us as women to start looking for organic bras as an alternative to traditional sports bras.
Influencers all over the internet have been sounding the alarm to let women know about potential risks in bras and sharing better options.

The BPA-finding study found that the sports bras had 22x the amount of BPA considered safe by the state of California. Yikes!
Unfortunately, there are toxic chemicals all around us in our clothing, tampons, shaving cream, and more but that’s not a reason to freak out!
What it is an opportunity to take your health into your own hands and find organic basics that are safe and healthy for yourself and other women in your life.
I’ve been slowly switching all of my polyester and synthetic fiber workout clothes including sports bras and yoga pants over to sustainable fabrics. It has been one of the best things I have done!
It feels so good knowing I’m doing my best to choose healthy options for not only what I put in my body (healthy food) but also what I put on my body – clothes!
Unfortunately, most of the fashion industry isn’t interested in bettering our health or watching their environmental impacts. However, you can find some amazing brands that are trying to do better by using sustainable fibers!
If you’re like me and you wear workout clothes 90% of the time it’s time to find sports bras without BPA.
By choosing organic materials you can be sure you won’t have nasty chemicals in your clothing and avoid supporting companies that use child labor or contribute to climate change. Instead, you can choose brands and fabrics that will positively impact your health and the environment!
In this post, I’ll go over 11 of the best organic sports bras made of natural fibers so you can have peace of mind that your breasts are safe from the toxic chemicals in traditional sports bras!
What is BPA? & Why Don’t You Want it in Your Clothing?
BPA is a hormone-disrupting chemical found in plastic. Humans are exposed to it by ingestion such as drinking out of plastic bottles or touching it such as when handling receipt paper or when wearing clothing containing BPA.
The reason it is troubling to have BPA in sports bras is that when you sweat you could be absorbing the BPA. This chemical is known to mimic estrogen and can cause hormonal issues in women leading to further health issues.
The BPA was found in polyester fibers with spandex which makes up much of the sports bras you can find today. It’s important with this information to find better alternatives to regular bras.
In addition to the chemicals, many sports bras are also constricting your breasts. Brands will market high-impact bras for running that hold you in very tightly but they can have a negative effect.
This is actually the worst thing you could do for your breast health. Your breasts have all kinds of fluids that need to circulate in and out and constricting them can cut off that circulation.
Instead, opt for a light support bra. If your boobs move while working out that’s a good thing. They are meant to have movement!
What Kind of Bras to Wear Instead
The good news is instead of choosing synthetic fabrics, you can get organic cotton sports bras instead. This way you will be sure there aren’t any chemicals in your clothing, especially in your first layers such as your bra and underwear. Other natural materials include wool, hemp, silk, flax, ramie, and jute.
Looking for these materials the next time you go shopping for clothing will ensure you are getting only natural fibers and BPA-free sports bras. Choose an organic brand of bras and other clothing so you will be able to avoid the most harmful pesticides and toxins.
It’s important to remember that your wardrobe may never be “perfect” in terms of being all organic, non-toxic, etc. The most important thing is to be informed and to just start one piece of clothing at a time. 🙂

Hi! If you can find one that is 100% organic cotton it should be chemical free but most sports bras will have a small amount of stretch material in them.
